About

Pueblo DePaz is not just an alter ego: it is also a place where one can look back and reflect upon. From all his travels, it’s a place where he can call home. Pueblo DePaz, also known as Pablo Emilio Ramos-Nieves is a mixed media artist currently living in Casselberry, Florida, USA.

Pablo refers to his style as “Urban Surrealism”: which he describes it as being a process of combining strange graffiti elements with culture and fantasy. He is finding new ways of how to look at art, enhancing the brain of how to think and also shifting stomach organs of how to feel about art.

Pablo has been creating art since an early age. Similar to the various locations he has resided, his style has radically changed and grown throughout the years. Born in Puerto Rico, Pablo moved to the United States when he was seven years old, where he received his first sketchbook as a gift. He would sit next to his brother doodling and drawing characters from his favorite cartoon shows or video games that they played.

When his travels led him to the International School of Curacao located in Willemstad, Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles, a small Island off-the-coast of South America. He invested his time in his desire to become involved with music recording and production of audio and sound effects, composing lyrics and mixing music in his personal computer. In 2007, Pablo attended Columbia College of Chicago under the Audio and Sound Production Program. He continued to devote his time with music and art, recording in his dormitory and using the urban landscape as his canvas.

In 2009 Pablo transferred to the University of Illinois at Springfield, IL (UIS), where he continued his studies in visual and graphic arts. While attending school, Pablo worked as a Gallery Supervisor at the Visual Arts Gallery in the university. He was a starring artist at the North Coast Festival in Chicago (2010), where he had the opportunity to paint live and sell his own T-shirts that he had designed.

In Springfield, Illinois, Pablo participated in local art shows every Third Thursday (3T). He volunteered to be a teacher’s assistant in the summer 2010, where he had the privilege to support a fellow graffiti artist and teach little kids about 3-D elements in letters and words. Together, they included lessons of structure, color wheel, and spelling to these young kids. Pablo was also involved as an uprising artist in residence at The Pharmacy in Springfield, IL – where he collaborated with other artists putting shows together.

In May 2013 Pablo obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts, focus in painting, graphic design and screen-printing. Upon completion of his degree, Pablo relocated to the state of Florida where he continues pursuing his career in the field of arts. You can see his current artworks being showcased at a comic book store called ACME Superstore, located in Longwood, FL.
